The Artist
I think I was born with a pencil in my hand. At school all my books and notebooks were full of my drawings. Then I started to draw teachers and noticed that my classmates found this really funny. Some teachers found it less amusing, though there were some who were disappointed because they had not been drawn … When I later discovered “Les Grandes Gueules” by the French Mulatier, Morchoisne and Ricord (the godfathers of caricature) it opened up a fantastic new world. In 1985 I was allowed to draw the cover for the weekly French magazine Pourquoi Pas? (What an experience when I saw my first caricature on the front page in the newsagents!). Later I drew for Special Télé (France), Ciné Revue, Parce Que, Teek Magazine … . Later I began step by step to make a name for myself as live caricature artist for events, meetings, walking dinners, fairs, incentives or private parties. For over 25 years I have had the best job in the world: making people happy by using my drawings. The response and the reactions of the guests during an event are simply priceless.
I would also like to pay tribute to my heroes: Norman Rockwell, Dany (Rosehip), Franquin (Gaston), Hergé. And of course my father, from whom I simply gained the talent for drawing …
Caricatures drawn from photographic material: the techniques.
At home in my studio I make individual caricatures based on photographs I receive from the client. From the quick black and white drawing (such as during live events), to the minutely detailed and coloured caricature. The quality of the photographs is of exceptional importance. A good caricature cannot be made from photos of inferior quality. Ideally it requires a number of sharp, clear, recent close-up photos.

A technique with Pilot Lettering pens and Letraset ProMarkers for the grey tones. A similar technique as used during events. They can be live drawings or taken from photographs. The quality of the pictures is extremely important: I need recent, sharp and clear close-up images.
Digital drawings (on iPad Pro) have numerous advantages: you can always make adjustments, the drawing can be used directly for print, social media, the internet, a presentation, … And it’s possible to have a “making of-video”.
A technique with black or coloured pencils, ranging from rough sketches to more elaborate drawings. Just the head or with a few details about the person in question. Again, the quality of the pictures is extremely important: I need recent, sharp and clear close-up images.

A combination of watercolors and pastels. Usually in very elaborate detail. This can be just the head, or in a situation that shows elements of career, hobbies, character traits … The quality of the pictures is also very important here: I need recent, sharp and clear close-up images.
